Salam, I hope you consider writing this out at greater length and say something about his successors, especially his sub-continental ones. Is there anything instructive about their failures also?
My dissertation is on the international reception of Iqbal, with special focus on Arabic, Farsi, and Urdu (or Turkish) reception of him. So far, his greatest failure is something I touched on very lightly - training anyone who inherits from him.
Iqbal is a giant amongst men in Islamic revivalism. But, like the rest of the project, he also has significant failures
Hopefully May of next year. The next four years of my life will be spent absolutely trashing every Muslim theorist of the last 150 years before I start working on my own thought.
Yo man- I write on Geopolitics and controversies with Friday Insides, sat specials and sunday analysis- check out my profile and only sub if you like my work.
very interesting and thank you for your efforts on such an important work. I would love to read further details on your characterisation (between generous and least generous extremes) of his failures on khudi, hopefully in bite sizes for my short attention span.
Salaams I have restacked your article with my response. There is a lot more but for now that should give you some thought and pause about how to approach such a personality within the envelope of the Akhlaaq, Adab and sincerity of our Prophet Pbuh.
this piece was already 2000 words. If you want to read more on this, I'll eventually write critiques of khudi and the reconstruction in the form of academic articles after i finish my dissertation on his global reception

+1, would love to hear about the attempts to continue this intellectual lineage
Fascinating piece that makes me want to read more on this topic. When do you plan on submitting your dissertation?

Hm... Interesting.
Folks like iqbal get (mis)appropriated by many like aint no way khadim rizvi read reconstruction
what's more insidious is when they insist he didn't mean what he very clearly meant
Ayen, when he failed and in which?

A very interesting read, leaves much to be desired in terms of a lengthy exposition, further elaborating the points made.

Looking forward to it, in Sha allah
